I read an article recently that I found rather amusing, yet sad at the same time. It showed a complete lack of understanding on behalf of the writer. The headline read, “Science Debunks These Bible Stories.” Near the beginning of the article, the writer said, “Since the development of science, there are several facts from the Bible that we now know simply cannot be true.” He then listed several things, such as creation, evolution, the flood, the earth being flat, the earth being the center of the universe, the parting of the Red Sea, the sun standing still, the resurrection, and a few other things, that in his opinion could not have possibly happened. The one glaring flaw in his thinking was this: those things could not happen by the laws of nature as he understood them, but they could happen if you believe in God and you believe in miracles.
Science would have us believe the world as we know it, and the evolution of man took billions of years. When I was in school, evolution was taught as a theory because they did not have the facts to prove it. We were told there was a “missing link” that would tie it all together if they could only find it. Fast forward to how old I am now, and they have less evidence today than they did then, but somewhere along the way, evolution became a fact and not a theory. Not only have they still not found the missing link, they don’t even have a chain.
In 1912, Charles Dawson faked what came to be known as the “Piltdown Man” as proof the missing link had been found. He knew he was presenting a lie, but he did it anyway. We now know the entire story was fabricated. Evolution tells us the odds of a single creature evolving with the precision necessary to become man as we know him today is astronomical. If that is true, and I think it would be, what would the odds be of a male and female evolving simultaneously with the ability to reproduce whatever they were at the moment? Evolution is the most ridiculous attempt to say there is no God.

According to the article, the flood could not have possibly happened, yet there is now overwhelming evidence that the highest mountain peaks in the world were underwater at one time. Rock formations and strata from various parts of the world all show something catastrophic happened simultaneously. This is by their own scientific standards, yet they still reject God.
The writer said that Christians once believed the earth was the center of the universe. Some may have believed that, but they didn’t get it from the Bible. And then he really showed his ignorance when he said the Bible claimed the earth was flat. The Bible never said that. In fact, Isaiah 40:21-22 says, “Have ye not known? Have ye not heard? Hath it not been told you from the beginning? Have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth? It is He that sitteth upon the circle of the earth.” Until a few hundred years ago, it was science who said the earth was flat. Science is finally catching up to what the Bible told us all along.

But that is not the main point of this devotion. All the aforementioned things are possible if you believe in a God of miracles. God speaks, and creation becomes a reality. God breathes on the waters of the Red Sea, and they part. God tells the sun He created to stand still, and it does. Jesus defeated death because He is greater than death. Nothing is impossible if you believe in miracles.
Have you ever experienced a miracle in your life? Let me mention two that happened to me, and then I will mention one God did for someone else. One year during Camp Meeting, a group of us went to Helen. There was a place near Anna Ruby Falls where you could swim. They had a tower with a rope that would let you swing out into the water. It was thrilling. A small rope was tied to the larger rope so they could pull it back up to the tower for the next person to swing out and then drop in the water. Once, while I was doing this, the smaller rope somehow got wrapped around my midsection, causing me to come to an abrupt halt in the midst of the swing. It resulted in three broken ribs.
A few days later, I was attending a revival service. No one there knew my ribs were broken, and certainly not the evangelist. At the end of the service, I went to the altar to pray. Someone came up behind me and, gently placed his hands around me and quietly said, “God, heal these ribs.” No fanfare, no show, just, “God heal these ribs.” The pain was instantly gone. The next day, I helped my dad install a hardwood floor. That was back in the day when you swung a heavy hammer and hit the tool that drove the nails into the wood, not the ones today that are connected to an air compressor. The healing was instantaneous.
The skeptic may say it didn’t happen because it would just be my word. Of course, the doctor who examined me could verify it. But the next miracle would have numerous eyewitnesses. (To Be Continued)
