Who do I believe, science or the Bible? It seems the “flat earth” debate has intensified lately. For many years, science taught the earth was flat. The Bible told us over 3,000 years ago that the earth is round. (Isaiah 40:22)

I was recently part of a discussion where the average age a person lived was discussed. Again, the Bible answers that. When God created man, He intended that man would not die, but death was one of the consequences of sin. You see a gradual decline in how long people lived following creation up to the time of the flood. There is some debate as to what Genesis 6:3 means. Some have said it refers to how long it would be before the flood came, but if you study all the scriptures around that event, you see that is not what it is talking about.

The average lifespan was reduced to around one hundred and twenty years. In Psalms 90:10, it is reduced again. Now, the average age became seventy, or perhaps even eighty, if by reason of strength, and that standard still applies today. Some die younger, and some live longer, but the average lifespan falls between seventy and eighty. Again, the Bible told us this over three thousand years ago.

Science once practiced draining blood from sick patients as a means of healing them. History records that when George Washington became ill, his physicians drained nearly seven pints, or almost forty percent of his blood. Leviticus 17:14 told us nearly three thousand five hundred years ago that “Life is in the blood.” President Washington’s doctors thought they were helping, but they drained the life out of him. It would take several more years for science to discover what the Bible told us nearly four millennia ago.

Some of the most outstanding scientists who ever lived spent their lives in pursuit of proving the Bible. Only when the scientific community became largely atheistic in the 1800’s did they begin to remove God and the Bible from every aspect of life. But one undeniable fact remains: the more they learn, the more they are confronted with God’s truth. One archeologist said, “The more we dig in the dirt, the more we find the Bible is true.”

If you look to Jesus, the author, and finisher of all things, the so-called unanswerable questions can be answered. How can you hold a moonbeam in your hand? With God, all things are possible.
