When God speaks, He speaks with exactness. Perhaps the greatest example of that is found in 1 Samuel 10:1-9, “Then Samuel took the flask of oil, poured it on Saul’s head, kissed him, and said, Has the Lord not anointed you as ruler over His inheritance? When you leave me today, then you will find two men close to Rachel’s tomb in the territory of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say to you, the donkeys which you went to look for have been found. Now behold, your father has stopped talking about the donkeys and is anxious about you, saying, what am I to do about my son? Then you will go on further from there, and you will come as far as the oak of Tabor, and there three men going up to God at Bethel will meet you: one carrying three young goats, another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a jug of wine. And they will greet you and give you two loaves of bread, which you will accept from their hand. Afterward you will come to the hill of God where the Philistine garrison is; and it shall be as soon as you have come there to the city, that you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place with harp, tambourine, flute, and a lyre in front of them, and they will be prophesying. Then the Spirit of the Lord will rush upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be changed into a different man. And it shall be when these signs come to you, do for yourself what the occasion requires, because God is with you. And you shall go down ahead of me to Gilgal; and behold, I will be coming down to you to offer burnt offerings and sacrifice peace offerings. You shall wait seven days until I come to you and inform you of what you should do. Then it happened, when he turned his back to leave Samuel, that God changed his heart; and all those signs came about on that day.” (NASB)

Notice how many details God revealed to the prophet, and all of them came true. If the church spoke with this kind of authority today, people would have more respect for the ministry and listen when the minister speaks.

Here’s where this subject hits close to home. God expects the person who speaks in His name to be accurate. So much so, if they dared speak in His name and it proved to be false, they were met with a stiff punishment. Deuteronomy 18:20, “The prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.”

Why have false prophets always been a problem? Sometimes their heart is wrong, and they have no desire to speak the truth. Jeremiah 14:14, “Then the Lord said unto me, the prophets prophesy lies in My name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.”

Ezekiel also speaks of a deceitful heart, but then adds a consequence in his writings. Ezekiel 13, 1-9, “And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say thou unto them that prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear ye the word of the Lord; Thus saith the Lord God; Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing! O Israel, thy prophets are like the foxes in the deserts. Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the Lord. They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, The Lord saith: and the Lord hath not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would confirm the word. Have ye not seen a vain vision, and have ye not spoken a lying divination, whereas ye say, The Lord saith it; albeit I have not spoken? Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord God. And My hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of My people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord God.”

It’s time the church stood against the false teachings of our day. God expects that of us. There will be multitudes who die lost because the church silently refused to stand against false prophets and the charlatans pretending to be servants of God.
