In Luke chapter 21, Jesus spoke of a time when people would become fearful as the world around them descends into chaos and confusion. We are certainly living in a day where those words are applicable. As I was meditating on the many issues facing America, I was reminded of a devotion I recently read.

God has brought many great people into my life. Rebecca Keener is one of them. I encourage you to purchase her book, “Holy Spirit 365.” I am blessed by her writings, and you will be too. The following is an excerpt from her book.

“According to the word that I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt, so My Spirit remains among you; do not fear!” Haggai 2:5

God promised His people that His Spirit would abide in their midst. What a wonderful promise for us in our world today. The word abide, in the Bible, means to “await,” “remain,” “lodge,” “sojourn,” “dwell,” “continue,” “endure”. When you think of the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit Himself, dwelling with us and sojourning with us, it is an awesome thing to consider.

As we remind ourselves that the Holy Spirit is abiding with us, we can rest assured that He is in control. When it seems that the whole world is abiding in fear, in worry, in doubt, in anxiety, in dread, in torment, we, the people of God, can abide in His total peace and security. God is on the throne and abiding with us, sojourning through life with us, all at the same time.

Haggai said that we should NOT fear. Whatever you are fretting or afraid of today, place it in the hands of God, who is abiding with you.

Prayer: Lord, we ask In Jesus’ Name that You would give us a divine revelation that You are abiding with us. We thank You for dwelling with us, sojourning with us, and remaining with us. What an awesome God You are. We ask that You would deliver us from fear and fill us with Your strength and courage In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
