My previous post, “It Was Only A Penny,” took an unexpected turn after the first paragraph. I had intended to use it to transition into this post and what happened after Jesus acknowledged the offering of two small coins by the widow woman. The disciples were once again asking Jesus about the last days.

After I accepted Jesus as my Savior, I would often stay up all night reading the Bible. I was a teenager who required very little sleep. It was around 4:00 A.M., while reading Luke chapter 21, that God used verse 13 to rock my world. “And it shall turn to you for a testimony.”

In the context of the surrounding verses, there have been many times when I pondered this question, “Is my calling related to the last days.” My calling is definitely one of calling people to repentance. That has been the heartbeat of my ministry; to see people get right with God. Within a week of me accepting Jesus as my Savior, I led my first person to the Lord.

The question then, as now, revolves around the last days. In these verses, Jesus spoke of a time when people would be deceived. We are living in days of deception. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to sort through all the lies to find the truth. Jesus spoke of wars and nations rising up against nations. The headlines daily tell the story of the unrest around the world, with nations seeking to conquer and destroy those they hate. Jesus said there would be earthquakes, famines, and pestilences. Covid certainly qualifies as a pestilence. Jesus spoke of persecution and people being hated for simply being one of His followers. The number of Christians they say who are killed each year is staggering. And there is more. When you read Luke chapter 21, you certainly see many things that would seem to indicate the last days.

And then I read the first part of verse 36, hopefully not taking it too far out of context, where Jesus said, “Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy…” That has been my goal for over fifty-four years of ministry. When I come to the end of the journey, that I will be found worthy. I thank God for the call. I thank God for the doors He has opened for me to preach around the world. But at the end of the day, I simply want to be found worthy. Is that your desire?
