What scares you? Young children tend to fear the dark, spiders, or getting lost. In our world today, teens are confronted with the anxiety of school shootings, and adults think of things like natural disasters or anything that harms us or our loved ones. When we lose our job, learn that we have a serious illness, face a significant financial loss, or watch a family member make dangerous choices, we experience fear for the future. What is going to happen to us, or them? How will we get through this? Life sometimes feels like we’re walking the tightrope of uncertainty.
It is said that the words “Do not fear” can be found 365 times in the Bible, in some form or another. One “do not fear” for every day. During the days of the Prophet Isaiah, the children of Israel were facing a time of uncertainty. God used the prophet to say to the people in Isaiah 41:10, “I am with you; I am your God; I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with the right hand of My righteousness.”
And then God adds in verse 13, “I will take hold of your right hand; do not be afraid.” So, if God’s right hand is holding my right hand, I do not need to fear. God will provide whatever I need for whatever I’m facing at the moment, and that gives me peace.
