Luke chapter 17 tells us Jesus is on His way to Jerusalem. The Bible says He passed through Samaria and Galilee. While on His journey, ten men who had leprosy approached Him. Leprosy was almost always a death sentence. Their affliction touched Jesus. He told them to go show themselves to the Priest. It’s interesting that when they began their journey to the priest, they were still lepers. They had not traveled far when they noticed they had been healed; they were no longer lepers.
I can understand them being overwhelmed with excitement at being set free from a near-certain death penalty. I hope they did visit the priest, although the Bible remains silent on that matter. I question this because they failed to do something that should have been an automatic response, and it was for one of them, but not for the nine. They must have been still relatively close to where they spoke to Jesus, because one of them, a Samaritan, ran back to Jesus and thanked Him for his healing.
Sometimes our needs are great, sometimes they are small. Sometimes we take for granted the times when nothing is wrong. Every morning and every night, in our prayer time together, Marlene and I thank God for all His blessings. Like you, we sometimes need divine intervention, but in our prayers, we always express our gratitude for just another day of life. I thank God for the times of miraculous intervention, but I’m also thankful for the everyday things we take for granted. I pray that we will never be guilty of being like the nine.
