Job 38:4-7, “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy?”

God spoke these words to Job on the heels of his friends giving their advice on why he was having to endure his trials. God interrupted their foolish counseling and spoke from a whirlwind. That certainly got Job’s attention. Later, in Chapter 42, God told Job’s friends that He was upset with how they misrepresented Him. Let me mention briefly two great thoughts from these verses.

First, God reminds us that, however well-intentioned we may be, we don’t know it all. Those who try to tell us how the world and all creation came into existence were not there when God made it. And yet, there are those who continually try to tell us how it happened. Even the most casual reading reveals their contradictions, causing some to finally acknowledge that creation could not have occurred accidentally over an unproven number of years; there must have been an intelligent design behind it all. There was, and His name is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost.

But then, secondly, God throws in this additional piece of information. He said, as this was happening, the morning stars sang, and the sons of God shouted. I think based on Genesis 1, part of the words to their song were, “It is good, it is very good.” When creation sings, it points us to God. Psalms 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God, the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”

I pray that our eyes will be opened to the greatness of God, and that we will join the angels in singing His praises and shouting for joy.
