According to the latest statistics, 362,437 babies are born every day somewhere around the world. That’s a lot of babies. While each is unique in its own special way, there was one birth that stands out from all the rest. The Bible says in Luke chapter 2 that He was wrapped in swaddling clothes and placed in a manger. In and of itself, that’s probably not so unusual. Babies tend to show up when and where they want to, and moms and dads have to deal with it, ready or not, with whatever they have at the moment.
Like most parents, Mary and Joseph probably counted fingers and toes. Like most babies, His skin was smooth and soft. His cheeks were probably pinched a few minutes after He was born. He made the normal baby sounds, from cooing and gurgling to crying. The difference in this baby was not in His flesh and blood, nor in how He looked, or how He behaved. What made this baby different was who He was. He was God, covered in human flesh. A Savior had been born.
