We do not know how much time elapsed between the time when God created Adam and Eve and when they sinned. It would appear that their transgression was not immediate. You get the impression that God would often come down “in the cool of the day” and fellowship with them. Everything that God created was theirs to enjoy, with one exception.
There were two trees. If they had eaten the fruit from “the tree of life,” they would have never died. I don’t know about you, but I believe I would have headed to that tree as quickly as I could. They could have eaten from this tree, but chose not to.
There was a second tree, “the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” God specifically told them not to eat the fruit of this tree, and yet one day they found themselves standing at the base of the only tree they were forbidden to eat from. They may have passed by the “tree of life” on their way to this second tree. Well, you know the rest of the story. One act of disobedience plunged the world into sin.
There are so many lessons we can learn from this, but one is the consequences of choice. Every day we make choices that not only affect us but also the people around us.
God help us to make the right choices today.
