At some point in our lives, we usually ask ourselves two questions that require a response. Who am I? What is the purpose of my life? The answer to these questions determines who we become and what we do with our lives. The answer becomes: me!

Society is always trying to press us into a mold. It happens in the secular world when we feel compelled to wear the same designer clothes that are popular at the time. If you don’t, you’re out of touch and looked down on. It happens in the church. There have been times when you could almost identify what organization a person belonged to by the way they combed their hair.

While we can all learn and benefit from the wisdom and example of others, God never called me to be an imitator of someone else; He called me to be an authentic me. Who am I in God’s eyes? What is His purpose for my life? Genesis 1:27 tells me that I am made in God’s likeness, in His image. My life should reflect His character. His values should be my values.

It is only when I find myself in Him that the value and significance of my life will become clear. Then, I will be able to answer the question, “Who am I?”
