1 Corinthians 12:22, “Those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary.”
Circumstances in life can cause you to stumble across the most amazing things. At least when I stumbled across this interesting tidbit, it amazed me. Have you ever heard of “ear rocks?” Me either! I’ve heard the expression, “They must have rocks in their heads.” Well, it turns out we all do.
I always had excellent hearing. Marlene said I heard too good. After returning home from a trip to Tennessee, I went to bed late one night, tired, but otherwise ok. I woke up the next morning totally deaf in both ears. The hearing slowly returned to one ear, but I really can’t hear anything out of the other one. The doctors ran all kinds of tests and could not find anything medically wrong. They call it “sudden hearing loss.” There’s no real explanation for it, and no known cure. Hearing aids help some, but not much.
Then, there’s a situation that affects Marlene from time to time. It’s called vertigo. It can affect her suddenly, without warning. Those who have this condition know how horrible it is. Here’s where I came across the “ear rocks.” Medically, they are called otoconia. If they get out of place, it can cause vertigo.
I never considered hearing a small part of my body, but I didn’t realize how important it was until it stopped working the way I wanted it to. Maybe I’ve got a few rocks out of place! How about you?
