~ A Place Of Covenant ~

Genesis 21:31, “Therefore that place was called Beersheba, because there both of them swore an oath.”

When God called Abraham to begin his journey of faith, He made an unconditional covenant with him, not based on what Abraham did, but on what God promised. A portion of that promise included a land that would forever belong to the descendants of Abraham. The ongoing conflict in that part of the world today actually began shortly after Abraham moved into the land God promised him.

The name “Beersheba” comes from the Hebrew “Be’er Sheva,” which can be translated as either “well of seven” or “well of the oath.” Water is essential regardless of where you live, and people kept trying to stop Abraham from having a source of water. Abraham dug a well that was seized by the servant of Abimelech, king of Gerar. Abraham confronted the king, leading to a covenant between them.

That well of covenant still has water in it today. This photo is of Marlene standing next to this “well of the oath” on one of our trips to the Holy Land. The world may try to steal what God promises us, but God’s promises are sure and will not fail. Stand upon the promises God has made you.
