~ Bread Of Remembrance ~

1 Corinthians 11:23, “For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”

Marlene and I have been blessed to travel to many places around the world. Scattered throughout our home, you will find keepsakes that remind us of places we’ve been. We also have treasured gifts from friends. Some of our most precious memories are tied to family heirlooms. Reflecting on them brings back warm memories. We remember!

As Jesus was sharing His final Passover meal with His disciples, He established something that continues to this day. A portion of it involves a piece of bread. When Paul explained this sacrament to the church in Corinth, he told them it was an act of remembrance. Every time they ate the bread of communion, they were to remember that it represented the body of Jesus that was beaten, spat upon, and nailed to an old rugged cross.

It may not happen often, but I suspect there are times, as Christians, when we eat a piece of toast, a sandwich, or any other food made of bread, that our minds remember what Jesus did for us. Jesus gave His body to be abused to purchase our salvation. He is our bread of life. Remember!
