When I was a kid (a long time ago, in a land far, far away š), I remember hearing people say they could tell you exactly where they were when they learned Japan had bombed Pearl Harbor. That event changed the lives of all Americans as we found ourselves fully engaged in World War II. Some memorable photos were taken that tragic day, but not many.
On September 11, 2001, the entire world watched as another act of terror was directed at the United States, and those of us who lived through it can tell you exactly where we were when we learned of this great tragedy. More people died on September 11th from this terrorist attack than at Pearl Harbor. The world changed just as it did for the generation of the 1940s.
We can learn many lessons from both of these events, the greatest of which is life’s uncertainty. From living as though everything is as it always has been, one moment, to taking that last breath the next. We each have an appointment with God, the time and date known only by God, but we should be ready at all times. God help us to never forget that.
