Psalms 19:1-4, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day, they pour forth speech; night after night, they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.”
I have always loved the outdoors. While some seemingly don’t understand what I mean when I say, “creation speaks to me,” I have scripture to back it up. David spent a lot of time outdoors tending sheep, and he learned not only to love the beauty of what his eyes could see but also to listen to the sounds of creation. His eyes saw; his ears heard.
The RV Resort we stayed at during the first part of this week had limited artificial lighting at night, allowing the natural beauty of God’s light to shine brightly. The night air was crisp and cool, and the stars filled the heavens. It was calming to the soul.
That has been my experience all my life. When I need peace and calm, God whispers to my soul through the beauty of everything He has made. I can almost hear Him say, “Be still, and know that I am God.” It’s a good idea to occasionally get away from the distractions that hinder us from seeing all the beauty God surrounds us with.
